Volunteer for the 2025-2026 School Year
Members are highly encouraged to volunteer, as part of Volunteers In Public Schools, or VIPS! Our PTO offers a range of opportunities that allow you to find a Highlands connection that fits your schedule. Whether you are a working parent or stay at home with younger children – whether you can offer one hour a year or one hour a week – you can make a difference! We truly need your collective support, creativity, and intelligence. Every person is not only welcome but needed.
Fort Bend ISD policy states that all volunteers MUST complete a Criminal History Background Check/Volunteer Application through the FBISD website. This must be completed annually and applies to any volunteer serving our school in any capacity. You will be denied access to volunteering by our front office staff if you show up without this completed!
Volunteer Opportunities
Single Day Events
If your schedule doesn’t allow for routine volunteering, this is the opportunity for you! Assist the PTO Board or Faculty with various fun-filled events throughout the year; sign-ups will be sent throughout the year as the events approach. You can volunteer at one or any number of these events.
Scottie Helper Committee
Behind the scenes weekly teacher assistance, including making copies, laminating, cutting, die-cutting, binding, sorting, packet assembly, re-shelving guided reading books, etc.
Popcorn Friday
Join the team to continue this long standing Highlands tradition! Pop and distribute Popcorn one Friday per month.
Faculty Appreciation Committee
Work under the guidance of the Staff Appreciation Coordinator to show love to our teachers and faculty. A monthly “treat” or activity is organized, and daily treats/activities are planned during Teacher Appreciation Week in early May.
Room Parent
Collaborate with PTO Room Parent Coordinator and other Grade Level Room Parents to plan and prepare parties throughout the year as well as assist with the grade level musical performance decorations.
Multicultural Festival
Help plan this annual Highlands tradition that takes place on a Friday evening in the spring (Date TBD in April). Help is needed to organize games & activities, secure food food trucks and concession, oversee Scottie World Barket, secure multicultural entertainment, decorate, and manage volunteers.
Bulletin Boards & Decorations
Work on a team to decorate prior to certain PTO and faculty sponsored events. Includes: PTO bulletin boards in the cafeteria throughout the year, Spring/Fall Book Fairs, Literacy Night, Spelling Bee, Multicultural Festival decor
